Action, yes, with purpose and focus

Action, yes, with purpose and focus

Analyzing what we are doing these days, perhaps we are allowing ourselves more reflection by having suddenly become aware of our vulnerability.

The arrival of COVID-19 has brutally shattered the longed-for control over many things (which sometimes seems so necessary for humans). We have had to adapt every day to our new reality, and our usual plans have changed or disappeared.

All this leads me to analyze that there are two types of people:

The doers: who are always focused on action. Sometimes an action without meaning, chained one with the next. The point is to do, and this initially makes you feel good. You've done it: and you cross it off your list of tasks, either literally or mentally. This commonly generates an empowering emotion, whether it be pride, satisfaction, joy, triumph...

The thinkers or analysts who turn ideas over and over before acting (they evaluate options, possibilities, pros, cons, data): to finally, in many cases, live in paralysis by analysis. So much research opens up multiple possibilities, preventing you from making decisions and taking the leap into action, as you might not achieve the desired result.

Does any of this sound familiar? With which of the two profiles do you identify more? Perhaps there is a mix of both in you. Which one predominates, and which do you think should prevail?

Well, let's move forward. After many years of personal self-awareness and analysis: from what I observe in organizations, perceive in my training and coaching sessions, I propose the following:

From my perspective, it is essential to balance "doing" with "thinking." Both options are valid and necessary. And most importantly, in the right measure, as you can imagine. And what do I suggest? Well, to change the focus from thinker to dreamer.

I believe it is necessary to think, analyze, reflect... yes, but not so focused on the data that, in many cases, does not invite us to action, but rather keeps us in the world of doubt, and move on to dreaming, to searching from curiosity:

  • what could be?
  • how would it be?
  • what would it contribute?

And with this, fill ourselves with energy, that helps us to action, that gives us big reasons to do, that excites us with achieving such a challenge, that truly makes us vibrate. And after this, only after having dreamed of the best possible, pass through the filter of data, of necessary resources... to finally move to action: a meaningful and focused action.

I believe that
